Parashurama, one of the reincarnations
of Lord Vishnu is prominent for its

its born thirst to preserve the rich tradition of sciences at

country" became the cradle for the traditional
sciences
including Ayurveda . With enormous support
of Believers, Nurturers, Practitioners and
Researchers, the science of Harmony adapted,
accepted and amended at its best possible
form for the time and accepted at its best. Ashtavaidyas name come at first in that
category due their immense dedication,
Preservation and contribution to the
science. Besides their genealogy goes to
Vagbhata one of the great triad, they
were well versed in all the eight branches
of Ayurveda at supreme. Stories of those
medical legends mentioned in the book named
“ Eitheehyamala” (Garland of
Tales) are even studied during medical
education for their excellent clinical
attitudes. Chikitsa Manjari, Yogamrutam,
Abhidana Manjari, Alathoor Manipravalam,
Kairali and Vakyapradeepika commentary on
Ashtanga Hridaya are few among the
authorship-accredited books by them.

Pazhanellippurathu Thaikat Mooss
family is one of the most famous Ashtavaidya
families and said to be the Royal physicians
of King Zamoorin of Ancient Malabar. They
have migrated to the Ancient Cochin Province
for extension of their services to Humanity, and
patronized by Sankthan Thampuran, the King
of Cochin. Soon they were named after the
place Thrissur and came to be called as
Thrissur Thaikat Mooss.This family has
special blessings from Lord
Vetekkaran (incarnation of
Lord Siva in the form of
hunter) which help them
continue their wisdom and
spiritual practices In
course of time; they emerged
as flag bearers of
ayurveda in Kerala. |

Among them, the name
that requires prerequisite mention is
definitely the name of Ashtavaidyan Thrissur
Thaikat Narayanan Mooss. He was the famous
one under whom more than ten books are
accredited of par excellence in Literature
in addition to “Sindoora Manjari”- one
earlier work on pharmaceutical hyperfine
powders and purifications of various toxic
metals and minerals deserves special
reference.

Ashtavaidyan Thrissur Thaikkat Vasudevan
Mooss popularly known as Unnimooss was born
in the year 1900. His father Ashtavaidyan
Narayanan Mooss was not only a famous
physician but also a celebrated poet who has
written more than ten books. His mother was
Smt. Devaky Antharjanam. Sri. Unnimooss
studied under the guidance of Sri. Vasudevan
Nambisan, a famous teacher and practitioner
of his time as his father
expired when he was five
years old.He further went to Kodungallur Kochunni Thampuran, a specialist
in Toxicology for higher studies. He married
Smt. Savithry, a member of another
Ashtavaidya Alathiyoor Nambi family.

Sri. Unnimooss died at a very young age of 27
years.
He was a prodigy in the field of Ayurveda.
At that time, modern medicine was gaining
popularity in India and Ayurvedic way of
treatment was pushed to back seat.He tried
to reinstate Ayurveda as the main way of
treatment. He brought resurgence in the
field of Ayurveda with a definite vision of
making it the most popular Health Science in
India. Unnimooss was the most illustrious
and celebrated physician of his time and
well known for his ardent fervor, correct
diagnosis and of course simplicity in
treatment. He was accessible to people from
all walks of life, right from the kings to
most common man. His contributions towards
the management of communicable diseases
received highest appreciations from the
society. The great Malayalam poet K K
Raja paid highest tributes to his
contribution by composing an elegy, named
“BASHPANJALI” in his regard.

Born
in the family of another famous Ashtavaidya
family, Pulamanthol Mooss, Ashtavaidyan P.T.
Narayanan Mooss married to Devaki
Antharjanam, the only daughter of Unnimooss.
He was a reputed academician, renowned
clinician and well known social worker.
Under hir guru Kuttenchery Mooss’s guidance
he made great reputations by treating
celebrities like Ramana Maharshi ,
Gulsarilal Nanda, Guru Golwarker, etc. |

Narayanan Mooss represented
Kerala as a member in the
committee of Ayuvedic
Pharmacopeia, constituted by
Government of India and in the
regulatory board of Ayurvedic
Post Graduate Course. He had
been an examiner in various
Universities. He stamped his
presence in all areas including
practicing, teaching
chanellising Ayurveda Education,
Manufacturing of medicines,
Social Service etc. His
scholarly wisdom was well
appreciated by all intellectuals
and practitioners in the field
of Ayurveda. Following the
untimely demise of Sri.
Unnimooss, Sri. Narayanan Mooss
became the Chairman of SNA. SNA
has been under his efficient
leadership for more than six
decades. He carried forward the
company to new hights. Under
him, SNA has become a leading
manufacturing unit as well as a
reputed treatment centre. During
his tenure, SNA has grown upto a
full fledged institution in
Ayurveda with all branches like,
pharmacy, nursing home, academic
division, R & D & publication
division. During his
Chairmanship, SNA had the rare
opportunity to receive the
services of other Ashtavaidyas
like Kuttanchery Mooss,
Vayaskara Mooss, Pulamanthole
Mooss and Alathiyoor Nambi. |

The heritage has been bequeathed to
posturing without break and the lineage
continues under the proficient leadership of
Ashtavaidyan PTN Vasudevan Mooss. He learned
ayurveda from Ashtavaidyan P.T. Narayanan
Mooss in traditional manner and took BAMS
degree form University of Calicut. |

Further, Dr. Vasudevan Mooss received
specialized training in Panchakarma from
Kasthurba Meidical College (Manipal Accademy of
Higher Education, Manipal). He also went through
a special course on Yoga from SVyasa.
As a voracious reader, his upto-date knowledge
in the other systems of medicines and interest
in academics and research are well acknowledged.
His contributions to periodicals & journals in
the form of essays, columns, etc are received
wide accolades from ayurvedic community.
As a traditionally and academically educated
Physician, he emerged as a dedicated clinician,
an established entrepreneur and thorough
intellectual. His interest in development of
ayurvedic branches like academic, Clinical,
Research, Manufacturing and Documentation are
well known. Various research activities are
going on in the fields of manufacturing,
clinical as well as academics under his
dexterous supervision.
He took over the reins of SNA from Ashtavaidyan
P.T.Narayanan Mooss and became the Chairman and
Managing Director. By adhering to the tradition,
with out compromising on quality, he has made
the organization competent enough to run with
the flow of time. |
